You can choose a 20-Trip or 40-Trip option or a 30-day Unlimited Pass, and it will load onto your SmartLink Card without having to go to a PATH vending machine. When the SmartLink Card balance reaches five remaining trips or five remaining days, it will reload the option you chose, automatically.
Since the PATH system does not accept stored dollar value for fare payment, only the number of "Trips Left" and/or "Unlimited Pass" (with expiration date) noted on the screen are applicable to your card. It is best to check your card balance using a PATH vending machine or through a PATH SmartLink SM Card Web Account.
To have trips or a pass automatically loaded onto your SmartLink Card whenever the card balance is low, set up the "Automatic Replenishment" service. At set-up, you select either a 20 trip, 40 trip, or 30 day Unlimited Pass Product.
You may notify the SmartLink Customer Service Center by using the Replacement Card feature in your online account or by calling the SmartLink Customer Service Center at 800 234-PATH (7284) and select the option for SmartLink. A $5 card replacement fee will apply.
Pre-loaded SmartLink cards with 10 trips are available at all stations for $31.00 (10 trips at $2.60 each, plus a $5.00 card fee). However, MetroCard Vending Machines (MVMs) at all PATH stations are able to refill the SmartLink cards to a monetary amount equal to 1, 2, 4, 10, 20 and 40 trips as well as the daily or 30 day unlimited passes.
