18 lis 2023 · Supraspinatus tendon tears are rotator cuff injuries affecting the supraspinatus tendon and are a common cause of shoulder pain. Epidemiology. They are the most common rotator cuff injuries and around 1/3 of them are isolated only affecting the supraspinatus tendon 1.
Full-thickness partial width supraspinatus tendon tear, with avulsion from the anterior footplate, and the tear extending posteriorly into the articular surface of the mid tendon critical zone. The full-thickness component measures 19 x 16mm (LR x TR) and the intact supraspinatus tendon is moderately tendinopathic.
Sensitivity is around 93% and specificity is around 89% for isolated supraspinatus tendon injury. The study has noted a significant difference in diagnosing partial tear of this tendon with ultrasound compared to MRI, but no significant difference in diagnosing full thickness or chronic tears 6.
(7a) A coronal fat-suppressed T2-weighted image demonstrates an articular-sided partial thickness tear of the supraspinatus. This tear is less well-defined but fluid signal can be seen extending over the exposed medial portion of the greater tuberosity (arrows).
A supraspinatus tear can occur due to trauma or repeated micro-trauma and present as a partial or full-thickness tear. Most of the time, the tear occurs in the tendon or as an avulsion from the greater tuberosity [2] .
