Maryland paramedics are licensed by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Service Systems (MIEMSS). Eligibility depends on meeting requirements for national certification and on meeting additional state-specific requirements.
To prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.
Core Paramedic Program Admission Requirements. Applicants offered acceptance into the program must complete all EDHS paramedic concentration lower-division requirements with a grade of “C” or higher before being admitted into the Paramedic Program. These include: Introduction to Emergency and Disaster Health Systems (EDHS 200)
To become a Paramedic in Maryland, one must first complete an accredited Paramedic training program, which typically takes 1-2 years to finish. After graduating, individuals must pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam to obtain their Paramedic certification.
The Paramedic Concentration consists of the core requirements of the Emergency Health Services, B.S. and a minimum of 98 credits in the concentration. Students pursuing the Paramedic Concentration must be EMT certified and provide documentation of a minimum of 100 patient contacts by the fall of their junior year.
The Paramedic Program provides students with the skills, knowledge, and clinical experience required to provide safe and effective pre-hospital care. Students may elect to take courses leading to completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree or certificate options.
The CCBC Emergency Medical Services Technology program educates and trains individuals to both EMT basic and paramedic. Our goal is to prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
