The Palmer Method of penmanship instruction was developed and promoted by Austin Palmer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was intended to simplify the earlier "Spencerian method", which had been the main handwriting learning method since the 1840s. [1]
The Palmer Method is a system of handwriting developed by Austin Norman Palmer in the late 19th-century. Palmer was a penmanship instructor that eventually landed a job at Cedar Rapids Business College in Iowa around 1880.
The object of the Palmer Method is to teach rapid, easily-executed, business writing. It has not been written to exploit any one's skill as a pen artist. It aims to be of use to those who are ambitious to become good, practical business writers.
The ideal paper for Palmer Method writing is smooth, but not slippery. You do not want overly textured paper (e.g. laid or handmade) nor you do not want overly slick or glossy paper. Lines. It is nice to have horizontal lines pre-printed on the page.
