CALL BEFORE YOU DIG. It’s the law to notify Gopher State One Call at least 48 hours (not including day of call/submission, weekends and holidays) in advance of your plans to excavate. There are two ways to report excavation activity: Call 811 or go to gopherstateonecall.org.
What do I need to do before I dig? Answer: Place a call to 8-1-1 at least 3 business days, but not more than 10 business days, prior to starting excavation. Section 5 Clauses 2.1 and 2.2 of PA Act 287 of 1974 as amended states:

Submit a locate request online for your residential property. Who should notify the One Call System? The person who is doing the excavation or demolition work should be the one to notify the One Call System.

Call Before You Dig! This Guide has been prepared as an educational document for excavators, designers, operators, project owners, and facility owners. It is intended as a reference tool for interacting with the Pennsylvania One Call System, ("POCS").
Before you dig, drill or move any ground near a pipeline, call 811. Gopher State One Call will notify representatives of underground utilities to mark their facilities at no charge to you. Calling 811 is required by law and can save your life.
