Players will then have to gather Zaros kill count to enter Nex’s final chamber. It is recommended to kill the spiritual mages as they give 5 kill count per kill.

You can definitely do it, though I'd suggest using a Rune Crossbow with Ruby bolts (e) to try to get a few lucky specs on Nex, which will get you enough damage to try for a loot roll. Magic Shortbow (i) most likely wouldn't get you enough damage to get a loot roll.

Other than having good gear/stats and doing the prequest of obtaining the frozen key there are other ways that you can make your life easier fighting nex before release!
