14 sie 2023 · The olecranon is the proximal articular portion of the ulna. Along with the coronoid process, it forms the greater sigmoid (semilunar) notch which articulates with the humerus to provide flexion and extension of the elbow.
Fracture of the olecranon accounts for approximately 5% of upper extremity fractures in adults. Typically, olecranon fractures are isolated injuries. However, many olecranon fractures are displaced and result in disruption of the extensor mechanism of the elbow.
Olecranon fractures are most often caused by: Receiving a direct blow to the elbow from something hard, like a baseball bat, or a dashboard or car door during a vehicle collision. Falling on an outstretched arm with the elbow held tightly to brace against the fall.
Proximal ulna fractures are relatively common upper limb injuries, which may represent fragility fractures or result from high-energy trauma. These include fractures of the olecranon, coronoid and associated radial head dislocations.
22 paź 2023 · Olecranon fractures (OFs) are the most common proximal ulna fracture that can be associated with injuries around the elbow including soft tissue injury, elbow dislocation, and proximal radius fracture [1, 2]. Subcutaneous location of the ulna predisposes it to trauma.
