This is a list of points scoring systems used to determine the outcome of the NASCAR Championships since 1949. The Championships are awarded each year to the driver who accumulate the most championship points over the course of the Championship season.
Here is a list of the champions if the old Winston Cup point systems was still used. I always find it interesting to use to compare drivers today vs. drivers like Petty,Earnhardt Sr,Waltrip,Yarborough,Pearson, etc.
Waltrip won $11,000 at Darlington, putting his season total at 303.65 points. He gained just 85.8 points, but that was an increase of 29%! Petty had 3,984.96 points from 22 starts going into the race. Petty won $4,350, and left with 4,212.01 points, a gain of 227.05 points - more than Waltrip had from the season before the race!

Hard to say, but I'm pretty sure that most sites only use the non-playoffs system with the current point system. I used the 2011 point system.
