18 lip 2024 · Vintage versus modern Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub. Hi all! I didn't see much about this online when I was researching so I thought I would try to contribute my experience for posterity. I recently replaced a 1974 AW3 sturmey archer hub with a brand new SRF3 sturmey archer hub.

I ride an old 26" mountain bike as my winter commuter, converted to single speed, but was really missing the gears. I was also curious about getting a new rear wheel with a 3 speed internal hub. But honestly, the parts for a 6/7 speed derailleur, shifter, etc. are so incredibly cheap, I just converted it back to a 1x6 system and it's been awesome.
