10 lut 2021 · 5. Obturator Sign. The Obturator Sign is when the patient is lying supine, and you passively flex their hip and knee, and then internally rotate. If this causes pain in the RLQ – this is a positive obturator sign. Sometimes the appendix lies in close proximity to the right obturator internus muscle.
The obturator sign indicates the presence of an inflamed pelvic appendix. Evidence shows that the obturator test does not adequately diagnose appendicitis, but can be used in conjunction with other signs and symptoms to make a diagnosis.
25 maj 2024 · Obturator sign: This sign is performed by flexing the patient's right thigh at the hip with the knee flexed and rotating internally. Increased pain at the right lower quadrant suggests inflammation of the internal obturator muscle from overlying appendicitis or an abscess.
5 Obturator Sign. The obturator sign is based on the same principle as the psoas sign, that stretching a pelvic muscle irritated by an inflamed appendix causes pain.
