Lieutenant Commander Edward Henry O'Hare (March 13, 1914 – November 26, 1943) was an American naval aviator of the United States Navy, who on February 20, 1942, became the Navy's first fighter ace of the war when he single-handedly attacked a formation of nine medium bombers approaching his aircraft carrier.

Edward “Butch” O’Hare, fighter ace, war hero, son, husband, and father, was missing in action and presumed dead. Recommending O’Hare for a second Medal of Honor, Admiral Radford said, “Butch, with accompanying planes, saved my formation from certain torpedo hits.”
20 lut 2015 · Lieutenant Commander Edward Henry O’Hare, United States Navy, commanding Air Group 6 from USS Enterprise (CV-6), was killed in action on the night of 27 November 1944, when his Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat was shot down by a Mitsubishi G4M bomber. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his actions during Operation Galvanic, 26 November 1943.

15 lip 2022 · As he flew a F6F Hellcat near Tarawa Island on November 27, 1943, O’Hare’s plane went down in the dark waters below and his body was never recovered. Butch O’Hare is probably best known today as the namesake of Chicago O’Hare International Airport—one of the busiest airports in the world.
