Students in grades eight or nine who want to enroll in one of New York City’s specialized high schools must take the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT). All students in grades eight and nine who are current New York City residents are eligible.
A current eighth grade student or first-time (not repeating the grade) ninth grade student; Eight Testing High Schools—Take the SHSAT to Apply. Eight Specialized High Schools use the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) to determine who can attend.
Testing Accommodations Guidance. This guide supports individuals who are responsible for determining testing accommodations for students with IEPs. Testing accommodations must be determined on an individual basis and justified based on student needs identified in the Present Levels of Performance.
There are two sample tests in this packet, and you can use them in any way you want; you are encouraged to use at least one of the tests to practice taking a full test under timed conditions. You have 180 minutes to complete the test; eligible English Language Learners or students with
