28 cze 2018 · Desired dosage ÷ stock strength x stock volume = amount of solution to be given. The desired dosage is the ordered dosage of the physician. The stock strength is the amount of drug present in the preparation while the stock volume is the amount of the solution where the drug is diluted.
As the nurse, you’ll perform medication calculations to ensure the correct dose of a prescribed medication is administered. The three methods for drug calculations are basic formula, also called Desired over Have; ratio and proportion; and dimensional analysis.

8 paź 2016 · The four general methods for the calculation of drug doses are (1) basic formula, (2) ratio and proportion, (3) fractional equation, (4) and dimensional analysis. These methods are used to calculate oral and injectable drug doses.
For some drugs the dosage required is calculated on a body weight basis. Body weight is measured in kilograms (kg) and so this dose is usually quoted as mg per kg. Other drugs (particularly cytotoxins) are prescribed in terms of the patient’s body surface area, which is obtained from nomograms.
