22 paź 2024 · Does anyone know what happened to the former McCloud River RR/McCloud Railway Northwestern Model 561 motor car after the line folded? I would like to know for an article I am preparing for RAILROAD HISTORY on Ford/Fordson gas-powered rail equipment.

STATE LAWS - In general, motor vehicle laws exempt rail vehicles, such as motorcars. For instance, it is legal to operate on rails in city streets without vehicle registration or state license. Some states have adopted the NARCOA rulebook for excursions on state-owned railroads.
The Cotton Valley Rail Trail Club is an association of railway motorcar enthusiasts dedicated to preserving railroad motorcar history and right-of-way maintenance through active operation and stewardship. CVRTC maintains and operates on a 12 mile corridor owned by the State of New Hampshire.

Motorcar owners belong to several clubs which obtain permission from railroads to operate on their tracks. These clubs are under the organizational umbrella of the North American Rail Car Operators Association (NARCOA).
NARCOA affiliated regional clubs conduct rail excursions for owners to operate their cars. Motorcar operators, at their option, sometimes let others ride along. Participation fees vary, with areas such as Mexico's Copper Canyon attracting interest as "the ultimate speeder trip."
