Teachers, school administrators, and non-teaching positions in NC school districts (LEAs) are employed by local boards of education but are paid on a state salary schedule based on a number of factors. In addition to the state salary, a local supplement may be provided by the school district.
2023-2024 Salary Schedules. Note: Pay for certified educators is based on an individual's number of completed years of experience and licensure level as determined by the North Carolina Department of Instruction. See important information regarding eligibility for master's and other advanced degree pay.
Pay Range for all other licensed interim positions: $145 per day for licensed educators * or $120 for non-licensed. These rates above are for the 2022-23 school year and are subject to change. Student Services interim pay is determined by the department.
Salary Assignment: Superintendents are paid within salary ranges determined by the ADM of the local education agency (LEA) to which they are assigned. ADM is based on the higher of the best one of the first two months projected ADM, or the best one of the first two months prior year actual ADM.
