The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit. The Lions compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the National Football Conference (NFC) North division. The team plays their home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit.
They are the oldest NFL team to not appear in the Super Bowl, as well as the only franchise operational for the entirety of the Super Bowl era and the only NFC team not to appear. The Lions have had several different logo designs during the franchise's 94 year history.
The Lions first began using this logo on their helmets in the 1961 NFL season, but it would not become the primary logo until 1970. The outline in this version was changed from Honolulu Blue to a thicker black one.
