There are two methods for verifying your RN license: Nursys®: NYSED participates in Nursys® (an online service), to verify an applicant’s RN licenses from most other U.S. states. If you were licensed as an RN in a state that participates in Nursys®, use the Nursys® service to verify your nursing license to the NYSED.

To find out if you graduated from a qualifying New York nursing school, visit here. During the 90 day period, you must practice nursing as a GN while employed at the health care facility identified on your limited permit application and you must be personally supervised by an RN.

With CGFNS’s Credentials Verification Service for New York State, you have one year—without having passed the NCLEX-RN exam—to practice nursing under direct RN supervision by obtaining a Limited Permit.
Foreign trained nurses trying to earn a New York license are required to use the CGFNS Verification of Authenticity of Education Credentials to collect transcripts directly from foreign nursing schools. CGFNS will send information to New York licensing authorities.
