Of the thousands of poems entered in each contest, the ones that catch our judges’ eyes are the ones that remove us, even just slightly, from the scope of everyday life by using language that is interesting, specific, vivid, obscure, compelling, figurative, and so on.
The National Poetry Competition 2022 winners were announced at a live awards event at the Southbank Centre, London on 29 March 2023. There were over 17,800 poems submitted to the 2022 competition from 8,112 poets from 103 countries worldwide.
