Anyone can throw shoes on that tree. Call me a jackass if you want, but If I'm going to try to post some obscure trail knowledge tid bit from a book for upvotes or karma, I'll at least get the fucking title of the book correct......
28 lut 2020 · But were the shoes in the trees from hikers who completed the trail? There is some clarification provided by FIRExNECK on Reddit who appears to have worked at Mountain Crossings at Neel Gap: There is no real meaning to the shoes in the tree they just started showing up.

27 kwi 2023 · I got a new pair of shoes, the Asolo Softrock Hiking Shoes and a new pair of Superfeet inserts. I originally had Altras , but have high arches, and they just weren’t working out for my feet. I chucked them up into the tree with much delight.
A short drive (22 miles) from Dahlonega's historic square will bring you to the Appalachian Trail crossing at Neels Gap. There is a well-stocked Mountain Crossings Store located at the AT crossing. Day hike parking is 200 yards south of the store.
