10 sty 2022 · "Mawṭinī" (Arabic: موطني, lit. 'My Homeland') is the national anthem of Iraq, being adopted as such in 2004. The song formerly served as an unofficial anthem of Palestine from the late 1930s Palestinian Arab revolt to 1996, when the country formally adopted an official national anthem.
The anthem was adopted in 1981 by then-president Saddam Hussein, the third verse of the anthem praises his party. (Interestingly, this is Iraq’s first anthem since first adopting an anthem over 55 years previously, that has words!)
