The Utter Party Massacre was an attack by Native Americans on September 9 or 13, [1] 1860, that killed or captured 29 of a group of 44 emigrants on a fork of the Oregon Trail in Washington Territory (modern day Idaho), United States. 10 survivors were found on October 24, 1860, emaciated and eating the disinterred remains of a party member. 21 sie 2017 · The Alexis Van Ornum family had seven members. They followed the usual route of the Oregon Trail and arrived at Fort Hall, Idaho on August 21, 1860. They heard about other Indian attacks along the Snake River plain by the Shoshoni. Some discharged troopers went along with the Utter train.
In a recent pic of Murphy, shared I think by KG's family, there seems to be a black crate in the frame. If little Murphy slept in a crate in Kaylee's room, that would explain why he was found unharmed 'in a different room'.

Between early September and late October 1860, 34 of the 44 would die, including Elijah and his entire family. They were killed by Indians, or escaped and then succumbed to exposure and starvation. Some of the surviving ten made it by eating the bodies of the dead wagon train children.

Over the next two days, 11 members of the 44-strong party including Elijah, his wife and a number of their children and an estimated 25-30 Indians were killed.
