Adam-ondi-Ahman: Jameson, Missouri. Originally called Spring Hill, Adam-ondi-Ahman was a short-lived 1838 Latter-day Saint settlement located in Daviess County, Missouri. Today, Adam-ondi-Ahman, located a few miles southeast of Jameson, Missouri, is a place of beauty and quiet contemplation.

There were many Mormons in Missouri and it served as one of the headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 1830s. In 1838, Lilburn W. Boggs issued the Extermination Order to drive Mormons from the state, and for a time there was no organized Church presence here.
In the recent past the Mormon church, now headquartered in Salt Lake City, has established a visitor’s center in Independence near the site where Smith believed that the Lord would return. The visitor center includes some dioramas depicting how Mormons lived during the 1830s in Missouri.
Far West This was the largest Mormon settlement in Missouri. A site for a temple was dedicated at this location (see D&C 115). Here on July 8, 1838, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles received a call from the Lord to serve missions in the British Isles (see D&C 118).
