Montelukast jest stosowany u osób z przewlekłą astmą o łagodnym lub umiarkowanym nasileniu jako lek wspomagający, gdy podstawowe leczenie za pomocą wziewnych glikokortykosteroidów lub krótko działających beta-agonistów nie zapewnia wystarczającej skuteczności.
