1 sty 2020 · Zygosity is the term that describes the number of zygotes from which a multiple pregnancy is produced. In the simplest form, twins may either be monozygotic (i.e., produced from a single zygote) or polyzygotic, namely, dizygotic, trizygotic, etc. (i.e., produced from two, three or more zygotes).
Twins, in rarer cases triplets, quadruplets (four), quintuplets (five), arising from a single fertilized ovum are termed monozygotic (MZ). The first identical quintuplets known to have survived their infancy were the Canadian Dionne quintuplets, all five of which survived to adulthood ( Fig. 3.1 ).
13 sty 2021 · A new study in Nature Genetics used whole-genome sequencing of monozygotic twins, their parents, partners and offspring to identify and characterize early developmental mutations, as well as the...
28 wrz 2021 · Monozygotic (MZ) twins and higher-order multiples arise when a zygote splits during pre-implantation stages of development. The mechanisms underpinning this event have remained a mystery. Because...
2 dni temu · Identical twins (also called monozygotic twins) result from the fertilization of a single egg by a single sperm, with the fertilized egg then splitting into two. Identical twins share the same genomes and are nearly always the same sex.
8 sty 2016 · The official term for identical twins (or triplets) is monozygotic multiples, where an egg is fertilised and then splits up, leaving two embryos with the same DNA.
7 sty 2021 · This analysis was restricted to blood and buccal samples with sampling dates, resulting in 766 individuals from 380 biologically independent monozygotic twin pairs and 2 monozygotic triplets.
