Mocal oil thermostats are designed to regulate oil flow through cooling devices until optimal (minimum) temperatures are reached. Cold oil enters the thermostat and is bypassed through the center of the unit returning to engine (figure 1).
Wondering if anyone has experience, advice, or their two cents to throw in about low-temp oil cooler 'stats. The stock ones have an opening temp of 194 °F. These aftermarket ones from Rotary Performance open at 165 °F.

If the Mocal thermostat is like the OEM thermostat I think the oil is supposed to do a U turn at the thermostat when cold and then flow through to the oil cooler when warm.
