In Mississippi, you pay privilege tax, registration fees, ad valorem taxes and possibly sales or use tax when you tag your vehicle. Registration fees are $12.75 for renewals and $14.00 for first time registrations.

A driver may renew their driver’s license anytime within six (6) months of expiration. Individuals with a Mississippi driver's license or identification card that has not been expired for more than twelve (12) months can renew online or at a Driver Service station.
A valid MS driver’s license is required if you drive on state roads and highways. You may renew your license up to 6 months in advance. You may also renew up to 1 year past its expiration but will pay late fees – beyond one year, and you may need to retake tests.
