If you have it on, turn smooth fps off (performance settings), on 1.8.9. I got 200-300 fps with it on, and 400-700 off. It might give you a large fps boost.
Their default settings are 1. I personally set RQ to 0.83, it gives me some 10 or 15 FPS more and isn't too blurry. You can adjust SQ down as well. Try another shader! Again, different shaders offer different results. There are many of them out there: BSL, Sildurs, Comp, SEUS, Kappa, Continuum, Nostalgia, just to name a few.
