First of all, I started playing modded mc in 1.7.10, so I’m not a big expert in 1.6.4. With that being said, other than optifine I don’t recall any other optimisation mod. If you are suffering from lag spikes the only thing that I can suggest you is to change the amount of ram dedicated to Java.
