11 sty 2010 · Miep had met Jan Gies in her first job. The two got romantically involved and on 16 July 1941, in the second year of war, the couple married. At that point, Jan was working as a social worker with Social Services of the municipality of Amsterdam.
19 paź 2024 · Miep Gies and Jan Gies were in fact a real-life Dutch couple and much of A Small Light is based on Miep's 1987 autobiography Anne Frank Remembered and the 1995 documentary based on that book (via SmithsonianMagazine). Miep was born in Vienna in 1909 and was originally named "Hermine Santrouschitz".
Jan and Miep's son Paul was born on 30 July 1950. They continued to live in Amsterdam until Jan passed away in 1993. After that Miep moved to the same town in North Holland where her son Paul lives.
