17 lut 2024 · Optimal Applications for USB and MIDI Cables: USB Cables: Ideal for transferring audio and video files, connecting external storage devices, and peripherals like printers and scanners. MIDI Cables: Best suited for connecting musical instruments to computers, MIDI controllers, and other MIDI-compatible devices.
You should know that a “MIDI cable” is something completely different from a “USB cable.” You should look up pictures to see what I mean. A traditional MIDI cable has 5 pins. Some MIDI cables for smaller electronics are 3.5mm trs cables. Most USB cables will work if your gear uses MIDI over USB. You may run into problems with cheap cables.
Perhaps the most simplistic option is to use a cable and let it handle the conversion from MIDI to USB. Using a cable can be quick and easy however it also has limitations. Compared to an interface there usually won’t be any types of controls or meters and no MIDI OUT capabilities.
3 kwi 2024 · To better grasp the differences between USB and MIDI latency, consider the following comparative analysis: Data Transfer Rates: USB 2.0 offers a maximum theoretical data transfer rate of 480 Mbps, while MIDI operates at a significantly lower rate of 31.25 Kbps.
8 paź 2017 · USB is much faster, and just as reliable as a MIDI cable. An external disk drive with a USB connection transmits data thousands of times faster than a single MIDI instrument with no problems! If you want to use very long cables, for on-stage work for example, MIDI might be a better option.
A lot of this centers over the difference between a USB MIDI Host and a USB MIDI Interface cable: Unlike regular 5 PIN MIDI, which lets you connect MIDI devices to each other directly, USB MIDI works very differently. A USB MIDI based device cannot connect to other USB MIDI devices directly.
Your "MIDI-USB cable" is a MIDI interface: a computer-addressable device that accepts and sends MIDI messages through MIDI DIN jacks. In this case both of the indicated devices are specifically USB MIDI interfaces.
