A meh dai (also known as a bei dai, formerly known as mei tai) is the common name given to a type of Asian carrier that originated in China many years ago; consisting of a fabric panel with long straps that are wound around the parent’s body, to be tied or twisted or tucked away securely.
Someone is selling it on marketplace and it looks like a Mei Dai/Mei Tai style carrier, but she said there is no tag with brand. I'm trying to decide if it's worth trying and worth $50 : r/babywearing.
I got an infantino sash mei tai on Amazon for about $15. I have not tried any other mei tai style carriers, so I don't know how it compares but I like it, it's comfy and easy to use and LO stays comfy in it.
Longevity: The Mei Tai definitely wins here simply because you can roll the bottoms of them to make them shorter, and because the "newborn" fitting of many SSCs either relies on a really hot, pillow-like insert and/or it's not actually particularly safe and supportive for a newborn.

25 maj 2023 · Generally, mei tai carriers can be used to carry baby in all four positions — that is, front inward and outward-facing, hip, and back carry. Always adhere to pediatrician-recommended age and behavioral milestones before switching to an outward-facing or back carry for baby’s safety.
