Secondary vocational education (MBO) prepares students for a wide range of occupations, from franchise manager to mechanic or nursing assistant. Demand for skilled workers is expected to increase sharply on the Dutch job market in the future.
9 kwi 2024 · After secondary education, the Dutch education system also has three main routes for education: MBO, HBO, or WO. Students who attended HAVO or WVO schools can choose one of the Dutch university options (HBO or WO), while students who attended a VMBO in high school are limited to MBOs.

This overarching framework describes qualifications attained during the 3 higher education stages in the following terms: learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences); the number of ECTS (with the exception of the PDEng/PhD). An overview of diplomas students can obtain in the Netherlands.
Secondary vocational education (in Dutch: middelbaar beroepsonderwijs, MBO) prepares students for the professional practice or further study. This type of education follows on from VMBO. The duration i of the MBO training will depend on the chosen level.
