Maxima is a computer algebra system comparable to commercial systems like Mathematica and Maple. It emphasizes symbolic mathematical computation: algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and much more. For example, Maxima solves x^2-r*x-s^2-r*s=0 giving the symbolic results [x=r+s, x=-s].

Download the latest Maxima version, which is currently: 5.47.0-Windows. Modern PCs are usually running a 64-bit version of the operating system, so download the file ending with win64.exe . Older PCs may be running a 32-bit Windows, then download the win32.exe version.
For Windows: Download the latest windows installation package. As of this writing it is maxima-clisp-sbcl-5.44.0-win64.exe. Go to the windows download page. Most people will want the 64-bit version, but the 32-bit version is also available for older computers.
The latest version of wxMaxima is 24.08.0. All wxMaxima releases are available from GitHub. We release the source code and (usually) Windows installers. WxMaxima is a graphical front end to Maxima, which does the mathematics in the background. So a wxMaxima installation (without Maxima) will be useless. Download wxMaxima.
