The summit area of Mauna Kea on the Big Island got about 2 inches (5 centimeters) of white powder. Hawaii is better known for its warm weather, beaches and rainforests.

Temperatures are set to dip below freezing, which will likely allow for ice and flurries at the summit mainly for Saturday and Sunday night. There is also a possibility for convection in the area and periods of moderate/heavy snowfall, mainly during periods of stronger dynamic instability.
Summit temperatures will be near 2.5 C this evening and 3.5 C tomorrow morning. Winds will be light and from the north, with seeing near 0.4-0.45 arcseconds throughout the night. Precipitable water is expected to be in the 2-2.5 mm range for the night.
