13 mar 2019 · Serial number 199572 was stamped on December 23, 1964 and cleared final inspection on February 11, 1965. The D-21 guitars were made of Brazilian rosewood like the D-28 guitars but were characterized by plainer appointments and black binding, although the zipper backstripe was retained.
The C. F. Martin D-21 Steel String Guitar is less common than its classic D-18 and D-26 brethren. Drawing on the same Dreadnought body design, the D-21 combines D-18 level decoration with the D-28 wood choice of Rosewood for the back, sides and headplate.
Built from 1955 to 1969, the Martin D-21 was a bridge between the Mahogany D-18 and the Rosewood D-28 models, with Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides but without extra binding or decoration.
