CRETE. kret (Krete, ethnic Kretes, Acts 2:11 Titus 1:12): An island bounding the Aegean Sea on the South. It stretches from 34 degrees 50' to 35 degrees 40' North latitude and from 23 degrees 30' to 26 degrees 20' East long.
19 mar 2020 · Though the Old Testament never directly mentions Crete (shown in inset), this island had a significant impact on the history of Israel. Crete was home to the ancient city of Knossos and the great Minoan civilization, the first advanced society in Europe, which flourished from before the time of Abraham until around the time of Moses.
Gortyn, located in the south of the island, was not far from the places Paul passed along the Cretan coast on his voyage to Rome. At one time, Crete served as the center of the Minoan civilization (c. 2700–1420 BC), which many regard as the earliest recorded civilization in the continent of Europe.
Fourth Journey - Final Trip - Greatest Success. After Paul was freed from a Roman prison he traveled to the Island of Crete, where he met his fellow evangelist Titus. Paul was quite familiar with the island, having landed on it during his fourth missionary journey.
