This is why items are important on Veigar: they are meant to make up for the many holes in the ship. Vars made a video about mages named Mages: the most item dependent class in the game. Set up for you to land W or if you're nasty Everfrost W + E + Q + W. Etc, it's pretty gnarly to play against. Luden's to me makes the most sense on artillery mages or similar to that playstyle (corki).
