Academic Courses focus specifically on preparing students to develop English language skills in order to attend a university where English is the medium of instruction. Students in Academic Courses should have at least an intermediate-high level of English proficiency.
Q: I want to apply to BYU. Does studying at the ELC help me get in? A: While the ELC is a great place to learn English, it currently does not guarantee admittance into BYU. Students who meet LAT requirements for Ensign, BYU, and SUU may use those in place of the TOEFL. Q: What BYU services are available to ELC students?

To apply to learn English at the ELC, first complete the online application (click "Apply Now" below). In the initial application students will be required to upload their high school and/or college transcript showing three years of grades and their diploma.

The ELC achieves this mission by: Providing BYU students with opportunities to apply university study in practical contexts and to develop excellence in English language teaching, tutoring, curriculum design, materials development, technology use, assessment, evaluation, and research.
BYU accepts English proficiency exams from the following testing services. Many of these services also offer an online or at-home option for their exam. TOEFL - BYU currently accepts the TOEFL iBT (testing center, Home Edition, and Paper Edition).
