The M46 Patton is an American medium tank designed to replace the M26 Pershing and M4 Sherman. It was one of the U.S Army's principal medium tanks of the early Cold War , with models in service from 1949 until the mid-1950s.
By the end of the year, nearly 200 were operational in this theater, and they proved all but superior to the few T-34/85s encountered, while 309 M26s were also present. But this proportion rose as more M26s were withdrawn and replaced by newly arrived M46s, also gradually replacing M4 Shermans by 1951.

21 maj 2018 · In combat, the M46 gave a good account of itself. It outmatched the North Korean Soviet T-34/76 and the limited T-34/85 medium tank types considerably. The 90mm main gun proved a good penetrating power at range while Western tactics proved superior for the day.
Initially designated the "M46(New)", this new improvement included a more efficient oil cooling system, new instrument panel, new hull wiring, improved brakes, and a new fire extinguishing system. A new Continental AV-1790-5B and General Motors CD-850-4 transmission was also designed that was interchangeable between the improved M46 and the T42.
Czołg T-34-85 był pierwszym wozem bojowym produkowanym w Polsce na skalę masową. W 1951 r. Polska zakupiła licencję na jego produkcję. Docelowo planowano produkować 3 tys. wozów rocznie. Producentem pojazdów były Zakłady Mechaniczne „Łabędy” w Łabędach koło Gliwic.
