Forms. As a motor vehicle trader you will most likely encounter the following forms. To obtain a new licence for a vehicle, the applicant needs to lodge this form requesting a licence (which can be valid for 3–12 months). A new label will be issued with this licence.

Under part 17 of the Land Transport Act 1998, a vehicle owner/importer must provide documentation that proves that they are legally entitled to lawful possession of the vehicle, and that the vehicle was designed and built to meet New Zealand’s vehicle standards.

If you have bought a new car or a vehicle imported to New Zealand for the first time, you must register the vehicle.
