In 1848 a revolution overthrew Louis-Philippe, the French citizen-king, and the Second Republic was established. Louis-Napoleon hurried to France and was elected a deputy to the Assembly. It was now that the power of his name served its purpose. The French people remembered the glories of his uncle’s reign. They elected Louis president.
