As part of the Kingdom of Israel, the territory of Dan was conquered by the Assyrians and many in the tribe were exiled; the manner of their exile led to their further history being lost. Some of the territory's inhabitants fled south into the Kingdom of Judah , gradually assimilating into the kingdom's Israelite population.

We have been studying the book of Revelation and it was noted that the tribe of Dan was missing from the list of tribes of Israel listed in Revelation 7:5-8. Is there any biblical explanation why Dan was excluded from this list?

When Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt, about 1483 B.C., they were second in terms of numbers leaving Egypt with 62,700 men old enough for war – at least 20 years’ old (Numbers 1:39). During the second census they had lost just a few members and had 64,400 strong (Numbers 26:43).
Why is the tribe of Dan not listed with other Israelite tribes in Revelation 7? Did they commit some grievous sin? What might have causes the tribe to be omitted? The verses in Revelation that lack a reference to the Israelite tribe of Dan are found in chapter seven verses four to eight.
