Season 3 starts out poorly but gets a lot better as it goes. Seasons 4 and 5 are more far-fetched than early seasons, but are better than season 3. So yes, it does get better, at least until the final season, which people are more mixed on. JJ Abrams only worked on LOST during the first season.
