What starts out as a conventional melodrama set in a sci-fi/fantasy world, turns into a film about loss and in the 2nd half, Reeve's performance goes from lovestruck handsome gent to a self-destructive broken heart which he accomplishes and, in my opinion, shows a potential which was wasted in unnecessary, shitty sequels to SUPERMAN.
