Backpackers will get more use out of the backcountry campsites, which wind through the forested area.
Providence Canyon State Outdoor Recreation Area is called Georgia’s “little Grand Canyon”. There is no regular campground but there are 6 backcountry campsites and three pioneer group sites. We visited the pioneer site #3 with enclosed pavilion , grill, picnic tables and restroom facilities.
What was once a man-made mistake is now a geological wonder known as Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon" and it definitely deserves a visit. Hike, rock climb, picnic your way through Providence Canyon State Outdoor Recreation Area to see the colorful rock walls jutting as high as 150-feet above the canyon floor.
For more established camping amenities, Florence Marina State Park is a 15-minute drive from Providence Canyon. With more than 40 campsites and 15 cottages, this is a great spot to stay for those who want to stay close to Providence Canyon without having to rough it.
12 wrz 2024 · If you’re interested in doing this hike, a great option is to camp and stay the night at one of the backcountry campsites available in the park. You can hike to the bottom of the canyon for a closer look at the unique rock formations. There is also a campground and picnic area.
