The following rules describe the original Base-Game for 3-5 players, with the original bean kinds. The three additional bean kinds – Cocoa Bean, Wax Bean and Coffee Bean – are only used in the variant for up to 7 players. (See page 7) ConTenTs & seTup. Give one of the bean field mats to each player.
GO RULES QUICK REFERENCE 1. Basics. The board starts empty. The board can be any size of grid, usually 13x13, 9x9 or 19x19. One player has black pieces and the other has white. The pieces are usually called stones. Black goes first, and then the players take turns. To make a play, you simply put a stone down on the board.
Materials. • These Beans Have Got To Go! pages 1–4. • 24 game pieces, 12 each in 2 diferent colors (e.g., 12 lima and 12 pinto beans, 12 red and 12 white buttons, 12 pennies and 12 dimes, 12 red and 12 yellow Legos) • paperclip and pencil for spinner.
A British Championship and a British Youth Championship are held every year, and there are Go tournaments throughout the country. These can attract upwards of a hundred players at all strength levels, including beginners and young players, and some include teaching sessions.

The game of Go is played on a board as shown in Diagram 1-1. The Go set comprises of the board, together with 180 black and white stones each. Diagram 1-1 shows the standard 19x19 board (i.e. the board has 19 lines by 19 lines), but there are 13x13 and 9x9 boards in play.
Go is played on a square board consisting of any number of crossing lines. The usual board sizes are 9x9, 13x13 or 19x19 lines, the latter being the official tournament size. To explain you the rules of the game we will use a 7x7 board since that will be more than sufficient for this purpose.
