SCLEROTHERAPY PRE AND POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS. As you are required to wear support hose and there is bruising and swelling associated with the treatment, it is advisable to schedule treatments several weeks prior to or after special occasions, events, or vacations that might be impacted by these factors.

4 sty 2019 · What to expect after treatment • Inflammation, swelling and bruising. Mild to large, dark purple areas are common. Temporary swelling of the leg can occur. You may notice mild to significant ankle/calf swelling which may worsen as the day progresses. Inflammation may extend into the skin, causing large red “blotches” that are mildly painful.
Avoid long hot baths, showers and saunas for 1-2 weeks following your treatment. It is also a good idea to cool your legs with cold water after each bath or shower. Avoid sunbathing and ultraviolet exposure for at least 7-10 days following your treatment.

Propping your legs on a pillow or cushion can help reduce swelling and improve blood circulation in the treated areas.
Pain after sclerotherapy is usually minimal and goes away after 1-2 days. If swelling occurs over an injection site, elevate and apply ice to the affecting leg. Call if you develop blisters at the injection sites, excessive redness in the leg, fevers, visual changes, or increasing swelling pain.
Instructions Following Sclerotherapy. Proper bandaging following sclerotherapy is critical for the success of the procedure. Leave the cotton balls, compression bandages, and compression stockings in place for 24 hours. After 24 hours, remove the compres-sion tape and cotton balls.
