Observations of leaf orientation showed that the leaves of most species are slanted, some to nearly vertical, in full sun and are more nearly horizontal in the shade. Although no preferential orientation for compass direction was observed, these responses may be useful.
The sun position should enhance photosynthetic capacity and efficiency and promote leaf cooling during high solar radiation. The shade pasition should maximize the individual leaf photosynthetic input.
29 wrz 2010 · In the first part of this review we will discuss the functional consequences of leaf orientation for plant performance. Next, we will consider hyponastic growth and describe how exploitation of natural (genetic) variation can be instrumental in studying the relevance and control of leaf positioning. Keywords:
15 sty 2019 · Leaf angle distribution (LAD) is an important property which influences the spectral reflectance and radiation transmission properties of vegetation canopies, and hence interception, absorption and photosynthesis. It is a fundamental parameter of radiative transfer models of vegetation at all scales.
20 kwi 2023 · We review the role of leaf angle in studies of ecophysiology, ecosystem ecology and earth system science, and highlight the essential yet understudied role of leaf angle as an ecological strategy to regulate plant carbon–water–energy nexus and to bridge leaf, canopy and earth system processes.
6 lis 2017 · This newly proposed ‘smart canopy’ ideotype, with differential leaf angles at different plant levels, unravels new knowledge gaps to develop superior germplasm effectively and generates new questions about the genetic control of leaf angle.
