31 sty 2022 · King James II was born on 14th October 1633 to King Charles I and Henrietta Maria of France. He was the couple’s fourth child – his elder siblings were – Charles born and died in 1629, Charles born 1630 and Mary born 1631.
James II and VII (14 October 1633 O.S. – 16 September 1701) was King of England and Ireland as James II and King of Scotland as James VII from the death of his elder brother, Charles II, on 6 February 1685, until he was deposed in the 1688 Glorious Revolution.
The descendants of James II of England, Stuart monarch of the Kingdom of England, Kingdom of Scotland and Kingdom of Ireland, are numerous. His last descendant in the legitimate line, Henry Benedict Stuart , died in 1807, but there are descendants in illegitimate lines to this day.
James II’s first wife, Anne, was Protestant (though she converted to Catholicism), and their daughters were Mary II (wife of William of Orange and queen of England) and Anne, who succeeded Mary as queen. James’s second wife, Mary of Modena, was Roman Catholic, and their son was James Edward, the Old Pretender.
