Updating the book cover in the library and file is super easy: after updating the cover and re-converting the book in Calibre, simply plug your Kindle in, do not remove the book from your device, and hit "send to device." This will not delete highlights, notes, your reading progress, etc.—it just overwrites the cover.
The current version is 4.18. Send the book to the Kindle while it is connected to the PC. Unplug the Kindle and let the cover get removed. Replug the Kindle into the PC while Calibre is open, let it recognize the Kindle. Unplug and they should be there!

28 maj 2020 · If you’re having problems with cover art disappearing on sideloaded books on your Kindle, then you need to update to the latest version of Calibre. With version 4.17 they added a fix for the disappearing cover thumbnails issue.
How to update your cover. You can upload an updated cover file to change the cover art or to make corrections in your existing book’s cover. Go to your Bookshelf. Next to the book you want to update, click the ellipsis button ("…"). Choose Edit content. Scroll down to the "Cover" section.
